Top Alternatives to Call of Duty for Nintendo Switch
-The Nintendo Switch has been out for over a year now, and in that time, it has amassed a library of great games.
-However, there are some glaring omissions from the system’s lineup. One of those is Call of Duty.
-CoD is the perfect fit for Nintendo’s hybrid console with its fast-paced multiplayer action and adrenalin-pumping campaign mode.
-So why isn’t it available on the Switch? Well, there are a few possible reasons…
It’s no secret that the Nintendo Switch has been lacking in first-party shooters since its launch. The only one available at present is Splatoon 2, which, while being an excellent game, doesn’t really scratch that itch for something more traditional like Call of Duty does. So why isn’t COD on the Switch? There are a number of potential reasons:
1) The technical limitations of the Switch. Let’s face it; the Switch isn’t the most powerful console on the market. It’s significantly underpowered compared to both the PS4 and Xbox One. This might not be an issue for some genres, but first-person shooters are notoriously demanding when it comes to hardware requirements. It’s possible that Cod simply wouldn’t run well on the Switch or would need to be heavily downgraded visually in order to do so.
2) The lack of online infrastructure support from Nintendo. Online gaming has always been something of a weak spot for Nintendo consoles (with a few notable exceptions like Splatoon 2). The company has never really supported online gaming in any meaningful way until very recently with the launch of its paid Online Service. It’s conceivable that Activision simply doesn’t want to deal with Nintendo’s subpar online infrastructure when it comes to such a popular and competitive franchise as Call of Duty.
3)It could be argued that Cod doesn’t really fit with Nintendo’s family-friendly image. While this hasn’t stopped other “mature” games from appearing on Nintendo platforms before (e.g., Doom), it could be seen as somewhat contradictory to have such a bloody and violent franchise associated with a company known primarily for making games aimed at younger audiences.
Whatever reason Activision has for not bringing Call of Duty to switch, let’s hope they change their minds soon. In the meantime, here are five great alternatives shooter fans can enjoy on their Switches.
4) DOOM – If you’re looking for an FPS fix on the switch, look no further than doom. Published by Bethesda, DOOMwas one of 2016 ‘s most acclaimed games and thankfully made its way to Nintendo’s platform last year. It’s every bit as good as its reputation suggests, offering up blistering fast action and gorgeous graphics powered by the id Tech 6 engine. Plus, it even supports motion controls if you want to play with Joy-Cons instead of using a Pro Controller
